Rod's Summary

I used this final week of the First Cycle of the WH in further exploration of the 1st Jhana level of concentrated absorption. Here is a verbatim description of one episode:

Sitting on the living room couch I began with breathing but quickly switched to the sounds of the house, especially the bath water being drawn by Marta. This focus dropped me quickly into a trance state. Then I noticed a "warmth" or "feeling" or "presence" or "tingling" in my chest. I recognized the feeling as what is described for the 1st Jhana, so I moved toward letting it suffuse throughout my body. Quickly I felt a rush of warmth, particularly in my legs, which were quite a way distant from "me." There was a yellowish glow to my body sensation, like incandescent lighting, which I've often noticed in dreams & trance state. I could describe the overall feeling as "delightful," but I would not use the term "joy." It came on rather chaotically, and when I felt it was with me I began trying to keep it, deepen it...and of course it disappeared. Then I began jibber-jabbering and ended the session.

Another session a couple of days later did not go so deeply, even though I reached a state of easy relaxation and a kind of "diffuse focus" which was interesting.

The rest of the week was super-busy with no time for Jhana work.
