Rod's Monthly Summary

Piet & Everyone

After establishing a time & place for the daily 5-minute experiment I began to explore the mindful state that arises in that setting. The first keyword to become evident was Centering which I described as the place where all dimensions spread out in equal measure.

During Week 2 I began to see clear contrasts between meditative consciousness and consciousness during daily life. The keyword that arose was The Sea Of Tranquility, in contrast to dealing with the jagged issues of the day. Most importantly, I realized that neither The Sea Of Tranquility nor The Jagged Issues Of The Day is complete in-and-of itself and that the Working Hypothesis of Completeness encompasses both.

Week 3 was a time for intellectual integration of the dual threads that had arisen in the first two weeks, characterized by the keywords Tranquil-Holistic for the meditative state and Linear-Causal for the state of daily life. Intellectually (i.e., from Linear-Causal consciousness) I sensed that I would be moving toward an integration of both spheres as each became more manifest in the other.

In Week 4 the keywords were Equilibration and Integration as I began to look for a balance between T-H and L-C, recognizing that my dominant mode of consciousness is heavily weighted toward L-C. To that end I decided that my 5-minutes a day would be best spent in allowing a deepening of the T-H sphere in order to bring it more in balance with the L-C sphere.

The last few days of the month brought back the experience of Trance Imagery such as I explored in the 1980s, especially imagery regarding "the visceral self," "the cavern," "the liquid realm," and "the blue-and-gold realm." As I looked again at Trance Imagery during meditation I began to recover my lost sense of participatory consciousness.

During this first month there has been a clear vector of movement, perhaps overly intellectual at first, but perhaps that was the route I needed to take to clarify the Working Hypothesis. I do now have a lucid sense of where I will be heading in the coming weeks, which is more like a recovery of consciousness that I had set aside in recent years rather than a discovery of consciousness that I did not already "know about." I am excited about proceeding!
